Hi all, we are proposing a kin meet in early 2018 in our cottages in North Wales. We can accomodate a few people so I am posting this to see who is interested in coming up. The proposed date is Saturday 21st October 2017-Saturday 28th October 2017 (see below). The cottages are in North Wales, in the mountains above Caernarfon and their Facebook page is here
We would need to make a charge to cover the utility costs, linen and cleaning which would amount to £50 per unit (each of which sleeps 4 people - one double and one twin). The place does have good WiFi and decent fibre broadband but has very poor mobile phone reception.
The idea would be to organise a mix of excursions, meals and boardgaming with the option for people to do their own thing for some or all of the time. Suggested ideas for excursions include:
- Visit to a castle (Caernarfon or Baeumaris)
- Ride on a narrow-gague railway (Welsh Highland Railway probably)
- Local walk - to Pen yr Orsedd disused quarry
- Mountain trip - to Snowdon or Cader Idris
We would probably have a couple of LotRO sessions for those with laptops (or who bring their gaming rigs with them!) so that non-attendees can be a part of the week.
Please post suggestions, expressions of interest, etc!

Trains to Bangor should be fairly painless for most people. It looks like the tickets would be about £70 return for an adult from your place (although you may be able to do better) and take 4.5 hours. We may be able to collect people from Bangor or there are very regular busses (2, 9, 9A, T2) from Bangor to Caernarfon which take about 25 mins. From Caernarfon to the cottage is by the 1F bus service which is only hourly (and takes 20 minutes) or we can collect as it's only a short drive. A taxi from Bangor station would be 15 miles which would cost about £38 or £21 (8 miles) from Caernarfon. A Red Rover all-day bus ticket costs £6.80 for an adult and £3.40 as a child. There, I have done the travel research for you :)

If anyone was thinking of coming from (for example) Sweden, there are direct flights to Manchester from Stockholm which is a 2.5 hour train journey from Bangor. Or probably cheaper flights to London which would then need a journey similar to Rhi & Q's above.

A kinmeet in Wales sounds like a lot of fun. I'll be there. :)

Ahh sorry guys, apparently we are going to Essen Spiel in 2017 and that clashes with the weekend so we are pushing this back to February 2018 (Saturday 10th Feb - Saturday 17th Feb 2018). On the plus side there is a good chance of snow in February! I know this is a long way off but as Bara said, this does mean there is no excuse not to come :)

Lots of notice, which is great. I'll drive down and combine it with a trip to my folks in SW Scotland.
Now, how am I going to explain this to The Command Module...

You do know that North Wales is not actually in South-West Scotland? Although, now you mention it, it seems like an ideal place to relocate, as the Brexit conversations continue.

Yes, partners are welcome but I need to know who is bringing who with them so we can plan!
So provisionally I have the booking looking like this:
Rufus & family (Manawadan cottage)
Rhi, Q & goblin (Pwyll cottage)
Duncair & Legs (+1?) (Branwen cottage)
Yirond (+1?) & Baracir (Math cottage)
Which pretty much fills us up unless people are willing to share a twin room. I have officially booked the cottages for the weekend so we're definitely on. Please confirm if you are coming solo or with partners so we can argue over who gets the double beds and who gets the twins

I'll be attending without Mrs Yi, who would probably love to meet you all in some strange espionage 'Ah, these are the nutbags he spends all his time with' kind of way, but the dates don't work out for her and the small people. I'll be driving down, can comfortably seat 4 adults, and happy to drive people around as needed. All of the activities you mentioned in the email sound suitably sociable, Rufus, but I'm just as happy to sit around in drinking emporiums putting the world to rights and consuming large quantities of lager. To quote Wales' favourite rap artists Goldie Lookin' Chain, "Youknowsit" - dates for me may be limited to Sat 10 - Mon 12 only, but will confirm in the next week or so.

Hey guys, unfortunately, after checking in with The Employers, I can't take so many days off work in February (we mostly travel abroad during summer and winter holidays), so I'm going to have to withdraw from this round. I'm really sorry. :(
