re: Want to Join? Here's How!

1

Welcome!

TSM is currently open to new recruits. If you want to join us, please make sure you read this thread in full and follow the recruitment procedure as stated. We are not big on rules, so it's a fairly simple process.

About The Silent Minority

TSM is for old has-beens (25+ years old and often much older) who, after a hard day's grump, want nothing more than to get together with others of their kind and discuss how the world was so much better in the good old days, how pies are better than cakes and just about anything related to chocolate.

TSM is a haven for people who want to get away from l33t-speak, txt-speak and all manner of other 'trendy' ways of talking that the youth of today are so keen on. So if you like to 'pwn n00bz', are always ROFLing, or just can't stop bunny-hopping everywhere then this kinship may not be for you. Smilies are allowed, but not in spatial chat please.

TSM does not enforce role-playing within kinship chat. Because we are based on a role-playing server, we expect every member to act appropriately so as not to break other players' immersion. There should be no OOC (out of character) speak in /say or /shout, no abbreviations, smilies or other emoticons in /say or /em and characters must at least attempt to have reasonable names that fit in with Middle-Earth lore.

TSM does not force players to role-play, group or raid. We acknowledge that there is a life outside of gaming and are relaxed enough to allow people to play in their own way while having other decent folks to chat to, to assist or be assisted by. Although we have many pre-arranged events and groups, all members have access to the calendar and are encouraged to create their own groups and events, rather than expecting someone else to do it for them.

Is a Role-Playing Server right for me?

Although it seems a simple question, there are often differing reasons why people choose to join a role-playing server. Some enjoy the atmosphere and immersion, others consider the people more mature than on other servers, and often people join because that is where their friends are.

Role-playing is a blanket term that can cover a whole range of styles, from the super-casual to the very strict. However, there is one important rule that is applicable to any player: You must respect the server's ruleset and must not do anything to break the immersion of any other player. This includes talking about real-life events in /say, using inappropriate language (including txt spk), hassling other players or jumping everywhere. If you just try to speak and act as your character would, then you shouldn't have any problem.

If you have absolutely no intention of role-playing then you would be advised to choose a normal server.

We are a fairly casual role-playing kinship. We have semi-regular events, all of which are 'in character', but do not enforce strict rules on players and generally prefer to keep things a little light-hearted (that's not to say we can't get serious when the need arises).

What to do next

-The first thing to do is to post a message in the Recruitment Forum. Your application should be an introduction to your real-life self, including your age (approximate is good enough if you're scared to admit it!), your thoughts on our guidelines and notes on your style of play. If you are a couple or a group, please make separate applications for each person (for admin purposes).

-If you haven't already done so, seek out some members and come and play with us! You might want to check our calendar for any public events, or just contact someone in-game to meet up.

-After you've spoken to an officer, you will most probably be invited into the kin under recruit status.  After a random amount of time, you'll be promoted to a regular, run of the mill lunatic.

These procedures not only allow us to see if you would fit in with us, but also for you to see if we are a suitable kinship for yourself.

Good luck and welcome!
